Until fairly recently, St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland was celebrated almost exclusively as a religious festival (in fact, until the 1970s, pubs were closed by law in Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day!). Nowadays, festivities in big cities in Ireland are as likely to resemble those found in Boston or New York, though the religious element is still to be found (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick%27s_Day).
St. Patrick’s Day will be here before you know it! If you’re like a lot of people, you’re likely to find yourself spending at least a part of the big day either at a party, in a pub, or at an Irish music session (possibly all three!).
